Commission Calculator
Calculate sales commission from a sales amount and commission percentage.
About the Commission Calculator
Calculate commission earned on eligible sales using a rate you enter. This is useful for simple percentage-based plans; tiered commissions, quotas, returns and chargebacks depend on the written agreement.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the eligible sales amount or revenue base.
- Enter the commission rate from your agreement.
- Review the calculated commission.
- Check whether the plan applies the rate to gross sales, net sales, profit or only qualifying products.
How the calculation works
For a flat-rate plan, commission equals eligible sales multiplied by the commission rate expressed as a decimal. It does not automatically account for tiers, quotas, returns, caps or taxes unless the tool explicitly provides those rules.
Example
If eligible sales are $12,000 and the agreed rate is 5%, estimated gross commission is $600 before taxes or plan adjustments.
Things to keep in mind
- Confirm the eligible sales base in the written plan.
- Returns, discounts and chargebacks may change commissionable sales.
- A tiered plan may require separate calculations for each tier.
- Commission is gross compensation; taxes are separate.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate commission?
For a flat-rate plan, multiply eligible sales by the commission percentage. For example, $5,000 at 4% equals $200.
Is commission take-home pay?
No. This is gross commission before tax withholding and other deductions.
Can it calculate tiered commission?
The basic calculation assumes one rate. Apply the written rules separately for a tiered plan.
Does the rate apply to all sales?
Not always; the agreement may exclude returns, discounts, taxes or non-qualifying items.
